Comics being used to convey medical information to adults is quickly catching on. Combining medicine and comics is know as graphic medicine. Graphic Medicine is a field that explores and supports the interactions between the medium of comics and the discourse of healthcare. Not only is it being used with patients but also as a teaching tool in academia for future medical professionals. Graphic medicine is a creative way to learn/ teach about illness. Combining text and pictures increases understanding with the use of different parts of the brain. In this program, you will be introduced to and will learn how to use graphic medicine in your library.

Ariel Pomputius is Health Sciences Center Liaison Librarian at the University of Florida's Health Science Center Libraries in Gainesville, FL. She leads a graphic medicine book club for the geriatric clerkship students and teaches courses to undergraduates on dying and women’s health using graphic medicine materials.
