Media manipulation is not new. However, in today’s 24/7 online world, media is relentlessly pervasive and invasive. Media manipulation is easy and provides income for practitioners. It can create misinformation that can harm and mislead. Awareness of media manipulation tactics has a critical role in our lives. Learn some basic clues to look for to identify media manipulation. Knowledge is power.
PRESENTER: Joanna Burkhardt is a faculty librarian at the University of Rhode Island. She has taught, presented and written about Information Literacy for more than 25 years. Her forthcoming book focuses on media manipulation.
