What's an anti-racist library? And why should we be trying to build one? Simply put, an anti-racist library is one that actively works to dismantle racism and promote equality. How can we build one when we can find racial bias all over our libraries-- in our collections, our discovery systems, and our interactions with patrons and other staff? In this workshop, we'll talk about identifying and addressing microaggressions, implicit bias, and biased library systems, in pursuit of building an anti-racist library. Because an anti-racist library is a better library for our patrons, our staff, and our world.

Presenter: Molly Higgins is currently a Reference and Digital Services Librarian and the Library of Congress, Congressional Research Service. She has previously worked at Stony Brook University’s Health Science Library and the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Lamar Soutter Library. She has experience in digital technologies, health sciences, and Asian American Studies. She specializes in the intersections of instructional design, technology, and issues of equity and social justice. She holds an MLIS from the University of Washington and a BA in Asian American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
