Long gone are the days when every donation was accepted into the archives.  Financial and personnel constraints have required archives to become more discerning.  Having policies in place allow archives professionals guidelines for collections management, future acquisitions, lending archives to other organizations for exhibition, assessing preservation needs and planning for emergencies.

Six documents that should be in every archive arsenal are:
  • Collections Management Policy

  • Temporary Custody Receipt

  • Deed of Gift

  • Preservation Policy

  • Incoming/Outgoing Loan Paperwork

  • Emergency/Disaster Plan

Nicole Menchise, LILRC Regional Archivist, will explain why these documents are key to a successfully operating archival repository.

Who should attend: Librarians serving local history rooms, Directors and employees/volunteers of historical societies, house museums or other cultural institutions.
