The LILRC Committee for the Preservation of Local History presents:
Vertical Files Demystified

What is a vertical file?  Simply put, it is a filing cabinet with folders dedicated to people, places, events, and other topics relating to a community.  It is the first stop for a librarian or archivist to send a researcher with questions about a popular subject. The Society of American Archivists has the following interpretation:  materials….collected and arranged for ready reference; a vertical file is an example of an artificial collection.

This workshop is for anyone who wants to begin a vertical file for their organization and for those looking to organize an existing one.

Using actual files from the host locations, Nicole Menchise will go step-by-step through the process of weeding, sorting, scanning and organizing files.  A workflow will be discussed and shared with the attendees.

Registration/networking begins at 10:15AM

A certificate for 2.5 Professional Development Hours (.25 CEU's) will be emailed after the workshop.
