Full-Time Patron Services Coordinator - Riverhead Free Library

Job Title: F/T Patron Services Coordinator
Reports To: The Director 

An employee in this position is responsible for overseeing the Circulation Department. Duties include assisting patrons by checking library materials in and out, issuing library cards and providing general information concerning library services. The Patron Services Coordinator supervises all circulation clerks, full and part-time. This position reports to the Director and is not union eligible. 

● Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, prepares payroll and evaluates circulation staff
● Supervises the performance of all functions relating to library circulation
● Handles concerns and problems and delegates tasks  in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale
● Makes decisions that may include handling problems with patrons, other libraries and finds solutions
● Communicates circulation policies to patrons
● Works closely with other departments of the library and advises other departments of important changes and information
● Oversees daily reports that may include clear the hold-shelf, paging slips and title page report
● Generates reports including monthly and annual circulation statistics, monthly memo to the Board and processes other reports such as long overdue items and expired patrons
● Maintains hold shelf and overseeing patron hold notifications
● Assists patrons in a friendly and courteous manner in person and on the phone
● Tracks departmental supplies and initiates orders for new or replacement items
● Responsible for the timely handling of all materials in the daily SCLS delivery bag
● Regularly attends meetings that may include SCLS circulation meetings, head of circulation meetings and department head meetings
● Promotes the use of the library, its programs and services to the community and local agencies in collaboration with other departments
● Performance of other duties as may be required

● High school diploma or equivalent required
● 2 years library circulation experience preferred
● 2 years supervisory experience preferred
● Ability to assign, supervise and review the work of a small group of clerical employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale
● Good knowledge of general library and office terminology, clerical procedures and equipment
● Comprehensive knowledge of Sierra and Create Lists
● Good knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic
● Ability to establish effective working relationships with superiors, coworkers and library patrons
● Ability to communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with patrons and staff
● Ability to exercise sound judgment, make quick decisions and perform well under pressure
● Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
● Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
● Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position 

● Full time 35 hours per week
● NYS retirement System, Empire NYSHIP health insurance, earned vacation, personal & sick time
● Base salary $35k (flexible to commensurate with experience)
