Part-Time Digital Projects Manager - Western New York Library Resources Council

The Western New York Library Resources Council seeks a dynamic, creative, service-oriented colleague for our new part-time position (21 hours) Digital Projects Manager.  Working under the supervision of the Outreach and Digital Services Coordinator, this position will manage all aspects of the WNYLRC’s digital projects: New York Heritage (, Empire Archival Discovery Collaborative ( , Empire State Immersive Experiences (,  New York State Historic Newspapers ( , ESLN’s dark archive and the new proposed IR  state-wide digital repositories. This position has the potential to be full-time at a later date. Working collaboratively with Outreach & Digital Services Coordinator to accomplish Council goals with respect to digitization of member collections responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Working directly with WNYLRC contributing institutions and librarians to ensure their complete understanding of the digital project including: metadata standards, best practices,  the appropriate digital platform, uploading, managing, and marketing their collection assets, and addressing relevant issues through training, communications, tutorials, and site visits 

  • Promoting digital initiatives to members to necessitate growth.  

  • Publicizing new digital collections via WNYLIB-l, NYLINE, relevant national and regional listservs and websites, and social media. Create or use existing marketing materials as needed

  • Keeping abreast of upgrades and changes to digital platform software and acting as the regional expert/trainer for members

  • Collaborating and meeting routinely with other ESLN/Member digital services colleagues on enhancements, strategic directions, and marketing plans and initiatives of digital services

  • Participating on other committees, subcommittees or task groups as needed

  • Attending local, state, and national conferences and meetings on digital practices, topics, and trends to further enhance WNYLRC digital services

  • Maintaining and analyzing a record of statistics for each of the services

 *Required Qualifications

  • MLS Degree from ALA accredited institution

  • Exceptional technical skills in managing digital platforms

  • Working knowledge of Drupal

  • Demonstrated knowledge of office software (e.g. MSOffice Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Project management experience

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments 

  • Ability to analyze the selection, technical and copyright issues that impact the success of digital projects.

  • Ability to apply established digitization protocols and standards to produce digital representations of archival and library materials.

  • Ability to apply established protocols and metadata standards to provide access to digital objects in digital asset management systems

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team oriented collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer-oriented communication skills  (written and oral) with ability to socialize with and engage constituents via virtual, email, phone, and in-person meetings

  • Willingness to speak in front of groups for training or promoting purposes

  • Ability to travel to attend local, statewide and national meetings, conferences, and events 

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in a library organization

  • Understanding of multi-type library systems in New York

  • CONTENTdm Digital Collection Management Software experience

Salary Range:  Commensurate upon experience.  Ability to join the NYS Retirement system. Pro-rated vacation, holiday, and sick time.
