Library Director
Riverhead Free Library (Riverhead, NY)

Description
  The Board of Trustees for the Riverhead Free Library seeks a motivated and dynamic Library Director to fulfill the Library’s mission to provide access, ideas, information, and a variety of educational, cultural, recreational, and intellectual resources to the broad and diverse community it serves in an inviting and eco-conscious manner. Governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees with an annual budget of over $3.3 million and a staff of 20 full-time and 50+ part-time workers, the Library serves the 40,000+ residents of the Riverhead Central School District and nearby contract districts. Chartered as a free association library in 1896, the Riverhead Free Library is located near the eastern terminus of the Long Island Expressway and the mouth of the Peconic River. The Library serves as the gateway to both the North and South Forks of Long Island. The Library is located in Riverhead’s historic downtown and attracts an average of 1,000 visitors each day.
Responsibilities
  The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Library and for carrying out the policies and practices as determined by the Library Board of Trustees. The Director should have an in-depth understanding of the position and its operations; be dynamic and innovative in directing, planning, organizing, budgeting and evaluating the Library's operation; provide leadership for the Library staff and volunteers; and interact positively with the Board of Trustees, patrons, media, governmental bodies, and the general public.
Required Qualifications
  Minimum qualifications are a Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution and three years of library management and administrative experience as a Director and/or Assistant Director. Excellent oral and written communication skills with extensive financial and personnel management experience are essential. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Board of Trustees, the diverse community and project a positive image of the Library by displaying evidence of innovative and cost effective ways to enhance and expand library services under tight budgetary constraints.
Salary
  Salary starts at $115,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications, and includes health insurance and retirement benefits within the New York State Retirement System.
