Archives on a Shoestring-Session II

May 2 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Topics to be covered:

Encapsulation and box making will be discussed since it is skill of high interest that would be of interest to those maintaining archives and libraries.  Sending items out for encapsulating and purchasing custom boxes is very expensive. Being able to encapsulate and make four fold phase boxes in house would be more efficient and cost-effective.

Focus of this second workshop will be the preservation of pamphlets and documents. chapbooks, playbills, brochures, music- anything thing that is a soft covered, single folded/stapled item and single pages like maps, and letters will be covered. Content will be on how to prepare and sew items, how to prepare and place items in an envelope in a binder if it is too valuable to sew, and how to encapsulate single documents.  Attendees are asked to bring a small document, like a post card or photo, to encapsulate and take home.
